Hold me to the mirror light
and make my meaning clear.
The world reverses left to right
when I am there, not here.

Rachel says...
"I wrote this poem after I had read Alice Through The Looking Glass I was researching mirrored writing and I came up with this poem. I liked the idea of writing a poem which you actually have to physically hold up to a mirror in order to decipher. The content of the poem is a reflection of this - in more ways than one! The clue, of course, is in the title."

Rachel Rooney was born in London and now lives in Brighton, East Sussex. She trained and worked for many years as a teacher of children with special needs, whilst bringing up her three sons. More recently, Rooney enthuses young people with the possibilities that poetry can bring and helps them explore their own writing. She has performed her poems at festivals and via The Children’s Bookshow along with creative workshops in schools.

Rooney has had numerous poems published in over 60 anthologies. In 2011 her collection, 'The Language of Cat' was long-listed for the Carnegie Medal and went on to win the 2012 CLiPPA (CLPE) award. Her collection 'My Life as a Goldfish' is out now and was shortlisted for the CLiPPA (CLPE) Award 2015.
